Master Andy Young
|
Master Young came into martial arts training much later in life than he would have liked, in fact he only started training at the age of 22 but has worked hard to attain his Master’s ranking under the guidance of Master Nar.
Prior to his Tang Soo Do enrolment Master Young visited many other martial arts classes, but was unimpressed with what he encountered. He remembers seeing many different types of instructors, some who seemed only interested in showing off their own skills rather than actually concentrating on the needs of their students to those who appeared to bully their students both physically and mentally. None of which was what Master Young was looking for. In 1990 Master Nar started a class in a hall in Coulsdon, Surrey where Master Young at the time was a Cub Scout leader; he remembers watching Master Nar motivate a class of about 20 students and was impressed at the enthusiasm throughout the class. This is what prompted Master Young to start his Tang Soo Do training which has had a considerable positive effect on his personal and home life. Master Young has had many classes throughout Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Middlesex and Surrey including classes within schools as part of the physical education syllabus. Master Young has won several Gold medals at various World Championships and has had the privilege of being an integral part of several world champion winning creativity teams trained by Master Nar. He has also had the privilege of personally coaching the 2008 European Tang Soo Do Championship creativity Gold medal team. 2010 was a pivotal point in his martial art's career with the Master Belt grading of one of his own original students whom he trained from white belt to black belt. Master Young is currently the association's General Secretary and is focused on growing the association from strength to strength spreading the ideologies of Tang Soo Do. |
