I started training in 1995 at the age of 22 having never tried any other style of martial art before. The idea of learning a martial art had always appealed to me but I never had the opportunity until I was much older to give it a go! My wife had heard from a friend at work of a new class starting at Gatwick Airport. My wife and I both went along for the physical exercise rather than the art itself, but soon I became hooked on both the physical and mental challenges learning the art offers, and I haven’t looked back. Having attained the rank of 1st Dan in 1999 I opened my first class in Redhill and have trained over fifteen students from white belt to black belt. Since attaining the Rank of 4th Dan Master I have chosen to develop new and practical techniques for defense against knives as I personally feel this is an area where today’s society feels vulnerable given recent media coverage of knife crime.
As a member of the executive committee I am responsible for the creation and ongoing review of the association’s Constitution, Health & Safety and Child Protection Policies. |
