Master John Heslop
|
Master Heslop started training in Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo do in January 1987 under the guidance of Master Nar. During the intervening years he has seen many changes - some of which have gone full circle - while his attitude towards and love of the art has remained constant.
He was never enthusiastic personally about competing, although he has won and lost within tournament aspects of Tang Soo Do. What he really enjoys doing is training and encouraging others as much as possible. Master Heslop started his self defense training as an amateur boxer on the amateur circuit, where he was considered by his trainers as one who would be a good professional. However, he wanted to follow his dreams of being a soldier, which he has now achieved, during which time he boxed as well as served time in Cyprus and Yemen. After demobbing from the Army, he studied Judo but within a short time the class was disbanded. He then trained in kung Fu but again the class ceased. He then tried kick boxing and did quite well, achieving a brown belt rank. He left kick boxing to go to college where he discovered the love of his life, Tang Soo Do. Master Heslop continues to train regularly and teaches in the East End of London. |
